Anyone hungry? Galaxy A12 Nacho launches out of nowhere

It might not be the Galaxy device we have waited to launch this week, but the Galaxy A12 Nacho is real all the same. Real and very much on its way to your local Samsung distributor, assuming you're located in Europe. From the looks of it, this is a slightly retouched version of the Galaxy A12 launched late last year.

In fact, the only major difference seems to be in the Exynos 850 system-on-chip that's running the show. So, hardly cutting-edge tech, but a known quantity compared to the Helio P35 from MediaTek which powered the original Galaxy A12.

What's up with that name, though?

Other than that, you're still looking at a quad-camera setup that's more style over substance, 4GB of RAM, and a choice between 32, 64, and 128GB of flash memory. In theory, at least. But most markets seem to be getting two of those models, tops. The pricing seems to vary from the equivalent of $159 to $190. Though some carriers are pretty much offering the Galaxy A12 Nacho as a free goodie for extending your contract. That, for example, seems to be the case in Poland.

As for the name of the device, we're not sure what to make for it. But it's definitely meager-sounding on purpose. It's not like anyone buying a smartphone in this price range is going to be demanding a powerhouse. And at least the Galaxy A12 Nacho ships with an up-to-date version of Android (11), i.e. Samsung's One UI (3.1). Other highlights include a 5,000mAh battery, a microSD card slot allowing up to 1TB of expandable storage, and a 48-megapixel main camera. Meaning this thing at the very least offers very decent value for money.
