Samsung has closed off 2025 at a high. It became the world's leading memory chip supplier by revenue in Q4 2025, bringing in $26 billion.

This stellar performance enabled the company to overtake its cross-town rival SK Hynix, which enjoyed an early lead over Samsung particularly in the lucrative high-bandwidth memory segment.

Price, demand, and margin trifecta working well for Samsung

The latest data from Counterpoint Research shows that Samsung took the top spot once again as it brought in nearly $26 billion in revenue. The surge in revenue was driven by strong sales of high-value products including high-bandwidth memory chips and server DRAM.

Samsung is also a major player in the conventional DRAM segment and rising prices contributed to increased revenues.

While SK Hynix lost out the top spot to Samsung in terms of revenue, it maintained excellent margins. The report mentions that SK Hynix set an industry record with a 58% operating profit margin.

Profit margins for memory chip makers, including Samsung, are projected to trend higher this year as the price hikes show no signs of slowing down. Demand is also on the rise for the expensive high-bandwidth memory chips and that is leading to supply constraints across the entire industry, further fueling the price hikes.

While this is great for companies making the memory chips, consumers may have to do the heavy lifting. Devices are already becoming more expensive and the impact is likely going to be passed on in smartphones as well, where it well be felt the most by the average consumer.
