Samsung's new restrictive One UI Beta rule might come to more devices

Last week, Samsung released the One UI 7.0 beta update to the Galaxy A55, and with it came a weird restrictive rule. The company mentioned that the update will be downloadable only through a Wi-Fi connection, and this rule could come to more devices in the future.

For the first time since the advent of the One UI Beta Program, Samsung mentioned that a beta update can be downloaded on a Galaxy phone only through a Wi-Fi connection, and not via a cellular connection. It wasn't the case with other (previous) phones, including the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

It was mentioned in the Galaxy A55's One UI 7 Beta Program enrolment banner that “starting this year, you can only download the Beta version in a Wi-Fi environment.” This statement points to the likelihood of Wi-Fi requirement being expanded to more devices in the future.

We aren't sure why Samsung has brought this requirement, as cellular speeds are improving everywhere in the world, and letting people download updates over the air through a cellular network offers them more flexibility. We hope to see the official reasoning behind this limitation in the future.
