My Google accounts got deleted from my Galaxy S6 edge on their own

The notification toggles going missing of their own accord was quite an irritating issue as it is, and I ran into another oddity on my Galaxy S6 edge this morning. As I cleared away all my overnight notifications from the status bar, one notification stood out to me – the phone was asking me to select a Backup account. For those unaware, this happens when you haven't set a Google account for backing up your device data, and since I had three Google accounts logged in, I was surprised that the phone was asking me to select a backup account all of a sudden.

A trip into the Accounts menu in the settings revealed that the phone had deleted all my Google accounts, and I don't remember doing anything out of the ordinary before I went to sleep. Well, I did update to the newest version of Google Sheets from the Play Store, but I'm not sure that had something to do with the accounts getting removed, unless the update somehow affected the Google Play Services framework, which could be one reason for what has happened.

It could also be a bug in Samsung's software, possibly introduced in the last software update that was rolled out out to the Galaxy S6 edge (and the Galaxy S6.) Thankfully, adding those accounts again worked just fine, but I'm left to wonder what could have caused the deletion of those accounts, especially since it's a bug I haven't seen before on any device in four years of using Android.

Have you faced the same issue on your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge? Let us know in the comments!

Can I charge my Galaxy S6 wirelessly? Absolutely!

The Galaxy S6 fundamentally changed Samsung's smartphones for the better. Plastic went out of the window as Samsung opted for a more premium glass and metal build. It also introduced a dual-edge curved display which really set the Galaxy S6 edge apart from the competition. It's no surprise that there are still quite a few […]
