The Gear S3 is the most powerful and versatile smartwatch Samsung has ever made. It's available in two styles – Gear S3 frontier for active explorers and Gear S3 classic for young professions. Both smartwatches are powered by Tizen 2.3.2 and are secured using Samsung Knox which is the company's leading mobile security platform. The Gear S3 is a business-ready device and has been designed for quick adoption by a variety of enterprises, including but not limited to transportation, mining, healthcare and construction.
Since there's no compulsion to use a Samsung smartphone with the Gear S3, businesses can pair the smartwatch with any Android-powered smartphone they already have deployed. The Gear S3 also offers some core functionality without needing to be paired to a mobile device. In the Standalone mode the Gear S3 frontier can easily make calls, send messages and check contacts on its own. Businesses will be able to use an MDM solution to apply device management policies directly to the Gear S3.
Samsung's new smartwatch is also compatible with the Knox Mobile Enrollment Program which enables IT admins and MDM solution providers to enroll a significant number of devices automatically by configuring device information in the cloud. This eliminates the need for staging services and as well as the need for IT to have physical access to each device during setup. To meet demands of various enterprise customers, Samsung has also released the Knox Tizen Wearable SDK which provides third-party developers with access to configuration, mobile device management and security capabilities.
