Samsung Listens To Developer Concerns Over Missing Exynos Docs
Looks like Samsung finnally listened to the developers of CUSTOM roms for Android devices.
Samsung is going to discuss the issues around the missing source files for the EXYNOS processor.
Samsung started to use their own processor since the Galaxy S. Because the Exynoss processor is quit special to Samsung. Samsung decided to leak not that much about their own EXYNOS processor.
Since Samsung sold many Android devices, developers making CUSTOM roms for Android start to blame Samsung about the missing source files from the EXYNOS processor.
Specially the makers of CyanogenMOD aren’t happy with Samsung at the moment.
One of the biggest developers for CyanogenMOD (codeworkx) started to switch over to Sony.
Lets hope for the Android CUSTOM rom community that Samsung will post the whole source information.
We of SamMobile think samsung will do good to release these documents, because the Samsung community is the biggest of all android phones. And it is good to have a great community behind your products.
Let’s hope this time Samsung will actually release them, or they will loose a whole bunch of credabilty and users!!
UPDATE: Flooding Samsung’s media sources seem to work Codeworkx just been cotacted by Korea read this post from XDA. Need to say this doesn’t say anything yet but it is a good step in the right direction.
You know that bad press for samsung is our most effective weapon to make things changing.
So if you want to make samsung to continue paying attention, you know what to do…
Fight till you got what you want to have.

Gotta see it to believe it.. Samsung said this before and always said no.. Simply put they are saying: We’ll have a look at it. And in a couple of days/week/months they just give us a big fat NO!
.. sad.. but if that’s the cast, this is my last samsung device I’ll ever own.

If this happens and the sources are released. I’m keeping my phone for another year or two and will get the next galaxy phone as well. If it doesn’t, maximum 6 months and I’ll get a Sony. Android without the latest and greatest custom roms…just isn’t android. I’m sure many would agree.

I agree
I hope that Samsung will be more opened to community…

I will believe Samsung when they turn over the source files.
The S2 Galaxy was distinctly more powerful then the competition and an XDA developer favorite. That made it irresistible for me.
The S3 was not head & shoulders above its competition in performance but I thought it was a favorite with XDA community. So I got the S3 Galaxy too.
I can’t speak for anyone else but if the developer community ends up dropping support for Samsung I know that the S3 Galaxy will be the last Samsung phone I own.

Basically large number of you guys are basing this on cynogenmod guys who builds aosp like roms. I didn’t have any issues with any of the roms that are based on samsung released roms. In fact, i hated CM9 because it lost a lot of stock capabilities in terms of audio/video and had to get a third party player to fulfill my needs.
Anyways, i think looking at this from their perspective, it’s somewhat understandable for the fact that they’re the SoC manufacturer for exynos

I will believe it when I see it.
Right now my next phone will probably be a Sony.
@ph00ny the reason that many things don’t work is precisely because Samsung is holding back documentation and sources.

No. Samsung did NOT listen to developers. Samsung posted on Twitter saying “We’ll think about it”.
Here’s a difference: Do you want a million dollars? I’ll think about it.
I’ll believe it when I see it.

You would be shocked ! I don’t have any exact figures but I don’t think that many people use custom roms. I flash my phone at least once a month and thus I have tried out most of the ROMs out there. I got my S2 in August last year and I have stuck to the stock ROMS albeit with a few mods added and am very happy with my device. I live in Tanzania and 90% of the guys who have S2s and other high end Samsung phones are still on Ginger bread 2.3.3 and are very happy.
Am I going to switch to Sony simply coz the CynogenMod team is unhappy about some processor documentation- BIG BIG … BIG NO. I have always respected and loved Samsung for their innovations and definitely their smartphones. Samsung has had some issues but they are pulling up their socks up.
To the CynogenMod team, be patient – Samsung will come through OR else reverse engineer that shit – ur bright enough. Also keep the good work up guys. Android is what it is now coz of crews like you.
