Why is the Galaxy Note II using a 8 megapixel camera?

Samsung wanted to use a 13 megapixel shooter inside the Galaxy Note II.
Samsung originally wanted a 13 MegaPixel sensor in the new Galaxy Note II. Sony was going to make the 13MP sensor but at the last moment Sony told samsung that they couldn’t fullfil the order so that’s why Samsung had to use a 8 MegaPixel Shooter instead.

Sony also told Samsung that they gave the order to LG.

LG announced the LG VU with of course the 13 megapixel shooter.

The good news is that Samsung will be using better camera sensors in the next-gen of high-end smartphones.
But sadly not in 2012, we will not see any kind of 13 megapixel smartphones by Samsung.

Oh and why LG got the order? They were first… And they never will get more sales than Samsung.

not looking forward for 8mp. just better lens quality and higher speed capture. one that can capture motion object with really minimal blur.

@wilfreb: Look at LG Optimus G and THEN consider saying “meh” ; ) Beats both S3 and Note2 in pure specs, we will see though how it will fare in other measures (battery life – can be problematic, crash tests – where I believe LG will be better, since S3 is tragic in this matter – that also rhymes, etc.). The weakness of LG is surely their support in the software area (ie new Android versions) – at least officially user is often fucked, not counting on XDA-Devs.

Though while I’m debating between Note2 (or S3) AND LG Optimus G, I could as well wait those two weeks and see what HTC has in store (though I’m not an optimist when it comes to them, their products, even flag ones (ie HTC One X) often failed – in the lack of removable battery or memory card (microSD) slot, in the locked bootloader and root being VERY problematic (even for XDA-Devs) and problems in other various areas) and meanwhile seeing what Apple will present (could be interesting, but still it will be the same old boring and most importantly, LOCKED (with shitty iTunes) iOS, with JailBreak not being a sensible solution to, so hardware, even if so important, will not be decisive).

@msedek I’m sure they meant the Optimus G! But still I’ll never buy an LG device! They are of really bad quality!

Samsung was and still on better chip manufacturer. So they can spend their money and time to research better cpu, ram, and storage. It’s consumer decision, if you want each devices to be same, have same cpu, ram, storage, display, camera, sound, etc. then why not close other mobile manufacture and keep only one. Be a smart consumer, you like photography hobbies and want your phone capable to support it, then choose Sony (Sony still and always produce better camera, it’s to bad Canon and Nikon doesn’t produce a mobile device :D )
