Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6

Introduction

The Galaxy Z Flip lineup has been a mainstay in Samsung's yearly flagship launch schedule since 2020, and in 2024, Samsung will have the Galaxy Z Flip 6 to offer to those who want a foldable smartphone that's more stylish and, more importantly, less expensive than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold line.

Design and display

With the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung refreshed the design by making the cover display considerably bigger, and industry analysts suggest that the cover display could be even bigger on the Flip 6. The rest of the design is likely to remain unchanged, but Samsung could bring the stronger aluminium frame of the Galaxy S24 and S24+ to the Flip 6.

Samsung will likely not bring the Gorilla Glass Armor protection of the Galaxy S24 Ultra to the Flip 6, and the same goes for the S24 Ultra's titanium frame. But the foldable display could be more resilient if Samsung's trademarking of the term Ironflex is anything to go by.

Specifications

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 could bring several hardware upgrades. The main camera may be a 50-megapixel sensor instead of the 12MP sensor Samsung has been using since the first Galaxy Z Flip, and the battery capacity may be slightly bigger as well (the Flip 5 has a 3,700mAh battery).

We can also expect Samsung to equip the Flip 6 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which offers higher performance and efficiency than the already excellent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that powered the Z Flip 5. The phone may also have a bigger vapor chamber to keep temperatures in check, similar to the Galaxy S24 lineup.

Software and features

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 will likely launch with Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1 out of the box, with many of the Galaxy S24's AI features and a few new additions. Samsung's new policy of seven years of OS and security upgrades should be applicable to the Flip 6.

Availability and price

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 could go official sometime in late July or early August and start arriving on retail stores before mid-August. It may cost $999 like its predecessor, though eventually the pricing will depend on how many upgrades the new model brings to the table.
