Samsung's amalgamation of a smartwatch and fitness tracker has proven to be a hit, according to a report published by Korea website MK News. Industry sources have revealed that Samsung shipped an initial batch of 200,000 to 250,000 units of the Gear Fit, which was reportedly sold out in only 10 days. 25,000 units were sold in South Korea only – Samsung has apparently shipped additional units to meet the global demand, which is said to have put pressure on Samsung Display and Samsung SDI, the only two suppliers for the Gear Fit.
If the report proves accurate, it would be a good sign that the wearables market, while not too exciting or popular at the moment, could gain solid momentum in the months to come. Here's hoping Gear Fit owners are taking good care of their smartwatch-cum-fitness tracker, or they might just find it hard to get a replacement if something goes awry thanks to the high cost of repair that has been rumored to be associated with Samsung newest wearables.
