Samsung and TIM have launched the first smartwatch in Italy with an integrated embedded SIM in collaboration with international digital security firm Gemalto. The Samsung Gear S2 Classic 3G is the first wearable device in the world with eSIM which makes it possible to connect the smartwatch easily to TIM's mobile network in Italy using a QR code. Once it's on the network the smartwatch can be used to make calls, send and receive messages as well as use cellular data all independent of a smartphone.

Gemalto's collaboration with Samsung and TIM is important as it will ensure the correct management and customization of mobile radio directly from within the eSIM. This is the first step in the evolution of the traditional SIM. eSIM enables users to activate their network connection remotely and then use the same eSIM on other devices as well like smartphones and tablets. Customers in Italy can purchase the Gear S2 Classic 3G for 399.90 euro or for 49 euro down and equal monthly installments of 10 euro per month for 30 months.
