New firmware I9300XXLG6 removes search function
Users of the international Galaxy S III have receiving a new OTA update that reportedly kills the local search feature. The new firmware: XXLG6 is identified as a “stability update” and removes the ability to search the phone for apps, contacts etc and replaces with the Google’s search app. The move is most likely to preempt from Apple’s patent claim but is surprising to see the feature removed since Apple is yet to assert the patent in regions other than United States.
The update is available over OTA or via Kies.
If you want you also can use ODIN for this update.

What patents are about that feature?!.. I had Nokia E71 mobile which has an inside-search for apps…etc, and every pc-os on the earth has this feature…

Yes, there’s nothing wrong with the search but Apple claims that it’s patented as a search of “both local apps and internet, simultaneous”. Even it already existing in other places.

I think Samsung might have pulled the update. Because earlier today I got the update and I told the update tool to go away, and then now when I am checking I am told there is no updates available

if Samsung did not copied the search application idea from Apple, then it would not have to be affraid in the first place. So, if Samsung pull the update or removed part of this search function then that says a lot, yes?

maybe stop copying or immitating entirely. If anyone but Apple has an original idea first, they would have done it already before Apple, logically but not financially of course.
