The phone that started the S-series FE trend is retiring.

Five years ago, the Galaxy S20 FE quickly became one of the most attractive and interesting phones of 2020. It was the first new Fan Edition phone in three years and the first FE device based on the Galaxy S series. But despite its rich legacy that kickstarted on October 2, 2020, it's almost time to say goodbye.
The Galaxy S20 FE and S20 FE 5G had their fifth anniversary at the beginning of October. And in most markets, the S20 FE received the October 2025 security patch a couple of weeks ago. As a longtime Galaxy S20 FE user, you probably know what it means.
Indeed, Samsung is about to drop support for your phone. Even though the Galaxy S20 FE remains listed on the official support page as of this writing, chances are high that Samsung will delist the S20 FE next month.
In other words, the October 2025 security patch should be the last update for the Galaxy S20 FE. After a long and eventful journey, the phone has reached the end of software support.
Although the Galaxy S20 FE is pretty much on its way out, we, as Samsung fans, should keep in mind that this phone has established an enduring legacy that continues to this day. Its latest successor is the Galaxy S25 FE, which went on sale not long ago with enhanced firmware support.
Unlike the S20 FE, which only received three major OS updates and five years of security patches over its lifetime, the new Galaxy S25 FE will be supported with seven major Android OS updates and seven years of security releases.
The Fan Edition series has certainly changed over the past five years. Apart from better firmware support, newer models have a very different design language. But, at the end of the day, the core idea is the same: offer good value for money and key high-end specs for a lower price.
If you're ready to part ways with your Galaxy S20 FE after this journey of half a decade, you can try to exchange your aging phone for the newer Galaxy S25 FE. In markets like the USA, the S20 FE can secure a trade-in discount of around $200 on the S25 FE.
But regardless of what you decide to do with your phone once Samsung delists it from the firmware support page (likely) next month, congratulations are in order for truly pushing the limits of your 2020 Fan Edition phone.
