If you know your way around the insides of a Galaxy device, you'll be happy to hear about Samsung's latest initiative. The company today announced the launch of a new self-repair program for Galaxy device owners in the United States.

Through this self-repair program, it will help customers repair their own Galaxy devices by providing them with genuine parts and guides. The company describes this program as a convenient option for customers to prolong the lifetime of their devices.

US customers can repair their own Galaxy devices starting this summer

The Galaxy self-repair program will launch this summer. Initially, the product repair support will be provided for the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S21 series in addition to the Galaxy Tab S7+. The company's latest Galaxy S22 series is missing from the list. However, the company will expand the list of supported devices in the future.

Samsung is working on this program with iFixit, a popular online resource for repair guides and parts. Customers in the US who want to repair their own devices will get access to genuine parts, repair tools and visual step-by-step guides that will teach them how to get the job done.

Customers will initially be able to undertake repairs for display assemblies, back glass and charging ports. Samsung will expand the list of repairs down the line. Samsung views this as an important sustainability solution. To that end, Galaxy device owners who perform repairs can send the used parts back to Samsung for free to be recycled responsibly.

This new initiative provides more choices to customers who want to repair a damaged device. Samsung already has a massive same-day service network that covers 80% of the US population through 2,000 locations. It also offers a “We Come To You Service” where technicians will visit the customer directly for repairs.
