Samsung Display will have tens of millions of OLED orders to fulfill for Apple later this year. The latter company is preparing the iPhone 14 series for the market, and Samsung Display could be the primary OLED supplier.

China's BOE was apparently planning to supply Apple with OLED panels for the iPhone 14 lineup, but it had to back down due to design changes. (via Korea IT News)

Samsung Display is now reportedly taking on the task in BOE's place. The Korean tech giant is gearing up to ship an estimated 80 million OLED panels for the iPhone 14 series.

Apple will rely on Samsung's OLED for all four iPhone 14 variants

Mass production for the OLED panels should begin in the third quarter of 2022. The iPhone 14 lineup could hit the market sometime in the second half of the year.

According to industry insiders, Samsung Display will ship roughly 38 million OLED panels for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models. The remaining orders will be covered by the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max.

Samsung is working side-by-side with Apple's material suppliers, including Duksan Neolux, Samsung SDI, and Solus Advanced Materials, to reach its OLED manufacturing target.

In parallel, Samsung Display is also supplying Samsung Electronics with foldable OLED panels for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Apple has yet to jump on the flexible smartphone bandwagon, but the company may have experimented with a few unique ideas, such as e-ink displays.
