PSA: Ask for your AKG earbuds if you buy a Galaxy Note 20 in the USA

Samsung has apparently stopped bundling its flagship phones with the popular AKG wired earbuds in North America, and in case you’re wondering, this is true for the new Galaxy Note 20 series. You will get the complementary AKG USB-C earbuds when buying one of the Galaxy Note 20 models in Europe, but they’re no longer included in the retail box for customers in the USA. Fortunately, not all is lost and customers in the USA can get their earbuds if they know to ask for them.

According to Samsung USA, the company has decided against offering wired headphones in its flagship retail boxes in North America as more customers are opting to use Bluetooth solutions. Samsung claims that the usage of wired headphones […] has steadily declined, and so the accessory has been removed from the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra boxes. It’s worth highlighting that Samsung’s official statement doesn’t outright mention the Galaxy Note 20 series but its entire flagship portfolio moving forward.

Ask and you shall receive, presumably for free

The good news for Galaxy Note 20 buyers in the USA is that they can get the AKG USB-C wired earbuds along with their flagship as long as they get in touch with customer care and ask for them. In Samsung’s own words, for those consumers that prefer the USB-C wired headphones, our customer care team can offer them on request.

It’s not entirely clear how a customer would go about getting the USB-C wired headphones when ordering the Galaxy Note 20 online, but getting in touch with customer care would be the first step. Also, Samsung doesn’t clearly specify this but we assume that the USB-C wired headphones will be given for free to customers who ask for them.

So there you have it. If you buy a Galaxy Note 20 or Galaxy Note 20 Ultra from Samsung USA, don’t forget to ask for your earbuds if you’re not a fan of wireless solutions. As to when Samsung will stop offering the AKG USB-C earbuds altogether, that remains to be seen with future flagships.

  • No wonder why people has got a new name for Samsung, Scamsung. Samsung should've given the option "not to include for those who don't need it" instead of completely getting rid of the earphones from the bundle.

    • You can ask for them. The article states that you can call customer care and ask for wired headphones.

  • Nope nope nope.. I chatted with an agent on the Samsung app about this exact thing last night. I said that I heard a rumor that the US versions of the Note 20 weren't being shipped with headphones in the box, that if they could please include a pair of USB C headphones in my order that'd be appreciated. I was asked some information to verify my Samsung account and then the order number for my preorder Note 20 Ultra, m waited a minute or two and then was told that in fact my Note 20 Ultra will NOT be shipping with a pair of headphones in the box. Before I could reply he was like (in so many words), I could off you a $30 promo code towards a headset you'd like of ours or you can use it on whatever. Yeah I was a little bummed about the headset but I wanted to see what they'd say (or not), I already have a Samsung 3.5 mm to USB C adapter to use my old headphones until I find a set of decent wireless earbuds but I definitely WASN'T expecting them to offer me a promo code for $30 off but I appreciate it, it's better than nothing. After that the agent told me I'd receive an email about the promo code within' 24-48 hours and early this morning at like 4 AM I received it, have yet to use it. I just don't understand why the Samsung global version gets the choice of the headset and they also have a 256 gb of the phones along with the 512 gb version as we have but both of their phones (256 and 512) both come in the color options of the mystic black or mystic bronze but in the US our 512 gb version only comes in mystic black but beyond that the global version in like the UK is 2-3 times what we pay retail price without tax so it's a toss up. I originally wanted the Ultra in 512 gb but when I realized that I could only get it in mystic black I ended up getting the 128 gb version in bronze because I'm tired of having all black phones all the time, gets boring.. wanted something with color and I mean I would have preferred a 512 gb but I'm coming from a Note with 64 gb so 128 gb is still a bit of a step up.

  • I just called their Sales Team, not Customer Care on 855-726-8721. Told them my Order number and requested that I needed those USB C Wired headset. I was asked to be on hold for some time, then the person created a Promo code and told me to wait for 24 hours. I received it within few hours. So please call the Sales Team instead of the regular Customer Care as they have no clue. Since this is a $30 Promo code, I am assuming you can use it on any item within a month, which in my opinion is a bit better than getting the headsets in the box as this allows us to use those $30 on anything we want if you already have old USB C headsets.

    I just got off the phone with Samsung (90+ minutes both 800-SAM-SUNG and Samsung Chat) and no one in either technical or sales support knows anything about free USB-C headphones.  One Samsung employee said I should return my Note 20 Ultra 20 5G 512GB phone during the first 15 should a headphone be important to me.

    Another employee said I was discussing a SCAM / FRAUD picked up by your website.  Basically saying you didn't check your facts.

    Who do I contact at SAMSUNG or how do I contact SAMSUNG with the proof?  Do you have a SAMSUNG press release?  Where did you get your information?

    I really want this article to be true, but after 90 minutes of being told no, send the phone back, scam, etc., I really need your help - please.
