Spam calls are a headache and they aren't going away anytime soon. That's why device makers are offering various software features to help protect users from such calls that intend to steal their information or money.
Samsung already offers one such feature, but One UI 8.5 will offer a much better option, one that has an AI assistant screen suspected calls on your behalf.
Samsung currently offers a manual call screening feature called Bixby Text Call. It lets you tap a button to ask about the unknown caller's intent before you decide to pick up or reject the call. The feature works even for save contacts.
A major One UI 8.5 leak has emerged and it reveals interesting information about the new features Samsung is working on. AndroidAuthority found references to a new automatic call screening feature in One UI 8.5. It won't take away from the manual Bixby Text Call option, rather, it would complement it with automatic screening.
The way this works is that an AI assistant can answer calls, ask the caller who they are and why they're calling. You can always using the Bixby Text Call feature or just pick up the call while the AI assistant is doing its thing. You'll see the conversation between the assistant and the caller without accepting the call.
It may even have an additional feature whereby the assistant can answer calls automatically when Do not disturb is enabled. Multiple languages will be available for this feature so Samsung may make this feature more widely available.
