BREAKING: Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo update now rolling out

The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived. The official Android 8.0 Oreo update is now rolling out to the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ in Germany. As promised by Samsung, beta testers are first in line, with regular users on Nougat expected to get the update after 24 hours. Naturally, the update’s download size will be smaller for those running the beta, and if you’re one of them, you can download the update by tapping the Download updates manually option in the Settings » Software update menu.

Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Android 8.0 Oreo update

Samsung has taken almost two weeks to roll out the final version of Oreo after beta testing ended. The availability of the update will vary by region and expand in the coming days. The rollout today started with firmware version G955XXU1CRAP for the Galaxy S8+ in Germany. It weighs 487MB and comes with the latest February 2018 security patch. It goes without saying that Oreo will soon be live for beta testers in other markets as well.

There’s a lot that Oreo introduces to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, including a newer version of the Samsung Experience UX, and you can see all the major changes and new features in our What’s New With Android 8.0 Oreo series of articles. Your phone should also perform better once you’ve upgraded to Oreo, though it remains to be seen if the improved performance will stick after a couple of months.

Let us know in the comments if you’re seeing the Android 8.0 Oreo update on your Galaxy S8 or S8+. If you own another Samsung device, see if it’s slated to get the Oreo update in our exhaustive list.

About damn time! Now treat your highest flagship like a flagship and send the update, yes I’m talking about Galaxy Note 8.

Wow, lucky you. Samsung really hates nordic (europe). I am still on November patches.

Not just the Nordic, I am from the unofficial capital of Europe – the UK and I am still on the November security patch on my S8 🙁

Interesting enough with s8 getting Oreo before or around same time so being released.

This will reduce any reason why you would want to pick up an s9 over an s8 given the high price and same specs. Slow Mo video is a gimmick and do people really use this more over an option of 2 times optical zoom?

I have G955FXXU1ZRA5 instead.
That means I have a higher version?
ZRA5 instead of CRAP

S8+ from Spain (if that has something to be).
I’m actually from beta team (although just for fun).

ZRA5 its beta

Oh yes, that magic ending in firmware name is suspicious G955XXU1-CRAP, crap, thye have good humor feeling.

fonix232

Not humor, but the naming scheme. Last 5 characters of the firmware version are: numeric for BL version, alphanumeric for the phone’s Samsung Experience/major update (C means third major update to the initial release of the phone), alphanumeric for the year (Q is 2017, R is 2018), alphanumeric for month (technically alphabetic, A to K), and alphanumeric for non-test-build of the given month.

So 1CRAP is: bootloader v1, third major release, 2018, january, P release.

I’m assuming most own Samsung flagships because their mommy/daddy gave it to them, otherwise, I don’t understand all these spoiled comments crying about “when will I get the update??!”, “why do the germans get the update and not ME!?!?”, get a life, people. You’ll get the update when you get it. Learn to be patience. It’s not like your S8/Note8 is up in flames because of Nougat.

If you want a phone that Apple deliberately slows down so you have to buy a new phone then go ahead.

samsunggalaxy82
samsunggalaxy82

even if they slow down (they have) my Galaxy note 8 is slower than iphone 6s.. I am not talking about app opening time – but these are the cases for me – >search in app drawer – slow >search in setting >checked update – nothing happened – then went to another app suddenly “your phone is up to date or something like that” >after non use of phone around 1/2 hour – there is a delay on opening camera. >phone dial sometime get lot of delays. Initially I thought it was my problem – but when spoke to another… Read more »

these impatient ppl… firmware isnt even buggy and you want to change asap. If you knew that Sony was fast releasing firmwares updates, but with lot of bugs, you’ll think it twice

You don’t seem to understand the fact that from the largest smartphonemaker on the market there update policy is WAY to slow they should have more then enough money to hire people to make it go faster. No your right my S8 is working fine but still on November security patch while we are currently in Februari 2018 unacceptable for a device that costs €699 and nope my parents did not gave me that device it is paid out of my own pocket it has got nothing to do with being spoiled it has got todo with being fair to your… Read more »

You do realize monthly patches are available so long the model and region are at a security risk, right? Plus, Samsung as you mentioned, is in fact one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world, and as such, every region is subjected to their own agreement with the manufacturer. Samsung Argentina is not the same as Samsung Malaysia in terms of contracts. I did not imply your parents bought the phone for your, but the bratty comments on update timing wihtout knowing the reason behind it is that of a spoiled child.

androidloverbe
androidloverbe

That is riduculous security patches cannot be dependent on a region no matter where you live in the world security holes like blueborne , crack , spectre etc etc can still be abused Samsung has to patch those….and i hope that 87 in your nickname is not your birthyear because in that case i can be your dad …..

the NOTE 8 is the Flagship- ultra premium phone and should be treated as such. IMHO

Eddygraphic

Exactly the Note8 is their top device and should be treated as such.

Wow, comments are pretty bad, I know Samsung took their time with this update but if it is really that important to all these people. You would have been better buying a pixel device. This has actually been a massive improvement compared to previous years maybe excluding 2017. So it’s not as if you shouldn’t have seen it coming. Samsung is always this late to the party. The reasoning (logically thinking) of the s8 being slight first is due to higher sales (affecting more people) and less feature features to test, compared with the note 8 meaning if anything you… Read more »
