Home / News / BREAKING: Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo update now rolling out

The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived. The official Android 8.0 Oreo update is now rolling out to the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ in Germany. As promised by Samsung, beta testers are first in line, with regular users on Nougat expected to get the update after 24 hours. Naturally, the update’s download size will be smaller for those running the beta, and if you’re one of them, you can download the update by tapping the Download updates manually option in the Settings » Software update menu.

Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Android 8.0 Oreo update

Samsung has taken almost two weeks to roll out the final version of Oreo after beta testing ended. The availability of the update will vary by region and expand in the coming days. The rollout today started with firmware version G955XXU1CRAP for the Galaxy S8+ in Germany. It weighs 487MB and comes with the latest February 2018 security patch. It goes without saying that Oreo will soon be live for beta testers in other markets as well.

There’s a lot that Oreo introduces to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, including a newer version of the Samsung Experience UX, and you can see all the major changes and new features in our What’s New With Android 8.0 Oreo series of articles. Your phone should also perform better once you’ve upgraded to Oreo, though it remains to be seen if the improved performance will stick after a couple of months.

Let us know in the comments if you’re seeing the Android 8.0 Oreo update on your Galaxy S8 or S8+. If you own another Samsung device, see if it’s slated to get the Oreo update in our exhaustive list.

When’s the official final firmware going to be available for download from SamMobile? You already know that I won’t be waiting for weeks for the update to be released as an OTA lol, Odin flash with Home CSC (no data loss or Knox trip) is technically the same thing as an update from settings

So you get the one-file firmware and use odin to update it? I use to use this method when I didn’t want to wait for OTA. The other question is that can I use the G955F firmware for dual-sim G955FD model?

It does work because G955FD is exactly the same as G955F but you most likely will not have multi Sim card option.

No, you can’t, G995F firmware only works on G955F, not G950F or G955FD

Hopefully that is just an unfortunate naming coincidence and not how the update is :))

It indeed is an unfortunate generated version string. Maybe this will prompt Samsung to set a filter up for versioning that will avoid such events 😀
