Samsung continues to improve the Expert RAW camera app. The upcoming update for the app has been detailed today. It brings a handful of new features that make the app even more useful. There's a bit of bad news for those who have been waiting for the app to arrive.

While it was confirmed previously that some older Samsung devices will get the Expert RAW app. It has been confirmed today that the app's release for the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 2 has been delayed.

New Expert RAW update brings a couple of new features

Expert RAW now lets save custom presets. It's a very useful feature since this app is all about letting users precisely control various different settings. Users can now create presets with their custom settings so they can easily be used for subsequent shots.

The app is capable of saving images in both RAW and JPEG formats at the same time. However, it may be inconvenient to always save the images in two formats. The update will let users choose whether they want the app to store the images in RAW or JPEG only. If they want, they can continue to save the images in both formats as before.

It has been confirmed today that Expert RAW won't support the telephoto lens on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, only the wide-angle and ultra-wide lens. That's because the Hybrid Optic 10x telephoto lens on the Galaxy S20 Ultra isn't able to output Bayer RAW, which is what Expert RAW's Computational RAW is based on.

Samsung has gradually expanded the list of phones that support the Expert RAW app. It was also promised back in February this year that the app will get support for the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 by the second half of this year. We're in the second half of the year already and the app hasn't received support for these devices.

It has also been confirmed today that the support schedule for these devices has been changed. One full camera system update is required for these devices before the app can add support. Further tweaks are also required before that can happen. The team is currently aiming to add support for these devices by September this year.
