Galaxy s wifi wont connect to Kies

Hello,

This is my first post to this forum - Hello everyone.

I have got a Galaxy S wifi 5.0 but it wont connect to Kies.

My laptop is running windows 8

I have downloaded the latest version of Kies (2.5.3) but the connection symbol just keeps spinning.

The device is running Froyo xxkd6 and firmware 2.2.2 - so I want to see if there is an update for the device ....... but it wont connect!!!

Any ideas?

Are you using an original usb cable?
Are you connecting directly to computer usb port and not through a USB hub?
Have you tried another usb port on your computer?

Thanks for the quick reply.
I am using the original cable, not through a hub and have tried all three USB ports on the laptop.
I have re-installed Kies etc., but still no joy!

Kies can be notoriously fickle.
May be easier to Google your model number for an update.
My guess is there isn't one.

There is an update to Gingerbread, but .............

Don't know about the Galaxy s wifi.
Presumably you can install the firmware with Odin.

we have two galaxy wifi 5ers in the house, they are the European ones with the physical home buttons. Both came with Android 2.2/Froyo. I bought them for my children for the games, radio, music & video.

One is now running the gingerbread firmware which I used Odin to install. It's very stable, works well.

The other is running Android 4.0.1, paranoid android I think, from XDA Devs. The camera doesn't work properly, and wifi sometimes fails to connect and you have to disable wifi and undisable to get it working. I am thinking of going back to gingerbread on it, very very reluctantly, because when it is working it's OK.
I installed it because my son installed something which contained ad-ware, random notifications would appear and other programs in chinese would be recommended!!
