I bought an ex demo unit of a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7" (SM-T550X) and struggled at first trying to get it out of retail mode. I tried using the easy to find method using the two passwords, but it would just reboot and be back to normal.
So I read about using Odin to flash the tablet with firmware (I used Odin v3.11.1 and firmware 6.0.1 T550XXU1BPE1_T550BTU1BPE2_HOME.tar.md5) which completed and removed the retail mode.
However, the apps are still on there and I cannot remove them, and I cannot reset to factory settings. In the general settings the option to factory reset is greyed out, and using the POWER / VOLUME UP / HOME menu to factory reset brings up a quick message at the bottom that "MDM does not allow factoryReset" and it just reboots.
I'm very new to Android so I don't know if I am now stuck with a large proportion of space eaten up by what I can only assume is a partition of some sort that doesn't get removed by Odin?
Unusual method to remove the security here:

That is unusual! I'll give it a stab later today when I get home.
I got to resetting it with that method, but when I did it was just back to how it was before. Still only have 3gbs left with all the preloaded demo apps unable to be removed.
Worth a try.
Can you send the firmware link you used to our technical moderator, yakapa40.
Ask if he can extract the pit file.
Flash the pit file and firmware file together with Odin.
Set Odin to:
Re-partition
F.Reset Time
Auto Reboot
The PIT will wipe your phone.
PM yakapa40 here with the Sammobile firmware link:

Thanks greenman, just uploading firmware to dropbox and will pm him straight away.
Just a quick question, when he extracts the pit file, is the firmware I am flashing the original firmware along with the pit file he extracts, or the firmware without the pit file, plus the pit file he extracts?
If that makes sense....?
You need a firmware with the same CSC (latest version is the usual choice)
Plus the PIT file for the firmware CSC.
Add firmware and PIT file to Odin.
Add re-partition to the Odin settings (this gives odin the instruction to use the PIT file)
hello

but with Live Demo Unit device ( LDU ) never change original pit file
if you want to flash a LDU divice you can try the G900X method
with total commander :
open (not decompress ) the BTU firmware
remove : all files and only keep:
boot.img
cache.img.ext4
hidden.img.ext4
recovery.img
system.img.ext4
save the firmware
remove md5 extention
flash with ODIN your new firmware.tar

Hi yakapa40, thanks for getting back.Originally Posted by yakapa40 [ Login above or register to see download links. ]
In Total Commander am I opening the file you linked to? Then following your instructions, removing all but the five things listed? I don't want to brick the tablet so I'd like to be sure, and am very noobish at this.
It worried me when you said "but with Live Demo Unit device ( LDU ) never change original pit file "
total commander :
only keep :
boot.img
cache.img.ext4
hidden.img.ext4
recovery.img
system.img.ext4
and delete ( with F8 ) all other files ( modem.bin , aboot.mbm,hyp.mbm,NON-HLOS.bin,rpm.mbm, sbl1.mbm ..... )
exemple here with G900X :
