Unhappy S5 Duos "Not Registered on Network" after update

I recently purchased a used SM-G900FD that worked with both TMobile and AT&T when I looked at it. I checked the IMEIs but then things got weird.

I wondered why it was still on Kit Kat and wasn't updating OTA, so after some reading I downloaded Phone Info. I noticed two things, S/N was 00000000000 and it was rooted. So I downloaded Odin, and (I think I) downloaded the correct firmware, G900FDXXS1CPG1.

This gave me 6.0.1 and the phone info now says it is not rooted but I can't get service from AT&T or T-Mobile. Is this the correct firmware? I read about baseband versions but I don't know how to download the correct one. I am back to the working (4.4.2) firmware, which is G900FDXXU1ANJ1.

Other than selecting the correct country code, which is CAC, how do I know I am downloading the correct (baseband?) firmware?

    Thanks in advance.

If your CSC code is Uzbekistan (CAC) then the firmware is here:

Installing a stock Samsung firmware will remove root.

From your description it sounds like the MM firmware is corrupting your EFS folder.
This would explain your Serial number and if you checked your IMEI, I would expect that to be wrong also.

Returning to 4. 4.2 recovered the corrupted data - but why?

You could try updating to lollipop and check the S/N & IMEI again.

The G900fd does not support 4G on the AT&T or T MOBILE network.

Thanks for the info Greenman. I did select firmware from the link provided.

I am not sure why returning to KK works but I will try lollipop or the MM that was posted on 9/20.

I also switched to 2G, which I read fixes this issue, but no change.

If there is anything else I can try please let me know. I will report back once I try the other firmware versions.

Check your IMEI before flashing the new firmware (dial *#06#)
    Then check again after flashing.

I finally got around to trying the new firmware again and I did as you recommended. I have attached a screenshot of the IMEI with 4.4.2 (ANJ1) and 6.0.1 (CPI1, dated 9/20), and they are identical. The only difference I notice is that the 6.0 one says S/N but none is listed, not even my zeros, only the barcodes..[ Login above or register to see download links. ]
I am still getting no service on both AT&t and T-Mobile. I also tried switching to 2G, 2G and 3G, and all the different options in the settings. I'm stumped as to why only stock KK works on this phone.

Is there something in MM that doesn't like my serial number with all zeros, or something else?

    Thanks again.

Any ideas? I also checked and it is not blacklisted.

I am getting this when dialing *#0011#. Why isn't it an issue with 4.4.2?

Does it work with other firmware?
You could try CM to test it.
