Is there a way to just install a custom rom? I have been looking and found that i need some CROM which was in the Samsung store but it is no longer there.
Install a custom recovery (TWRP or CWMRecovery)
Find your custom rom and install the zip file with custom recovery.

After spending a few more hours reading i figured that i need a CROM service. It was available in the Samsung store but is not any longer. Would you by any chance know where i can get it from?

This is part of the security check.
In this case I think it is a mis-match in the PDA first 3 letters.
    The India version has XXU
    The Taiwan version has ZTA

I think you have found that answer yourself.
