Flasing to SM-A102U fails. Device is `carrier unlocked` (T-Mobile). Bootloader? Help

I have a SM-A102U from T-Mobile. It is carrier unlocked. I know this for a fact because I convinced them to do it for me and I've tested it. I want to flash the newest firmware. I've done this before on other fines and it's worked fine.

This is what I *think* the problem is, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Even though T-Mobile "carrier unlocked" it for me I still don't have the `OEM unlocking` option in Dev. So when I try to flash it's failing due to locked bootloader I believe. How can I unlock the bootloader? I mean the US version of the firmware exists on this site so there has to be a way to use it right? Or is it for international folks who want to flash US firmware?

Why would T-Mobile want everything locked up if they unlock phones for people? Maybe I am just confused. Someone please clear this up for me!

    Please see screenshot!

    Hi there

Could you go to Software Info on your device, screenshot it from top to bottom and post it here?

Yes!! Thank you for replying!!! I've been trying to figure this out for days. I think the bootloader is still locked and there is no `OEM unlock` in `Developer Options`. Here are the screenshots that you requested.

What are you trying to do?
It's two-fold. One I want to flash the stock Android 10 firmware from 08/30/20 on this site to the phone, but every time I try I get the results shown in the first post. However, what I did not show and actually forgot to mention until now is that when it fails like that on the phone it says real small at the very top in red something about BOOTLOADER. I am assuming this means it's failing because the bootloader is locked. I am into cybersec so I want to see what the new version is like from that perspective. An added bonus might be that maybe there is less bloatware.

Secondly, I am working on a NetHunter kernel for this device. I'm mostly doing this for fun, but also for like a "portfolio". I am trying to change careers and I think it would look good to show them. I am very weak when it comes to mobile security and I'm trying to fix that.

I have some posts in Samsung's development community as well. If I can't figure this out here I am going to call Samsung and talk to some of their engineers about the issue. There has got to be a development setting somewhere that allows for this since I'm pretty sure the `OEM unlock` option in `Developer Options` is non-existent by carrier request, but they've already went ahead and carrier unlocked it for me a while back.

Are you using an ORIGINAL USB-cable (USB-A -> USB-C), tried another USB-port on your PC, tried another PC?

    1. Install SmartSwitch for PC (NOT to be used, just for the drivers): [ Login above or register to see download links. ]
    2. Download latest Odin: [ Login above or register to see download links. ]
    3. Download latest firmware for Multi-CSC OYN: [ Login above or register to see download links. ]

How to flash firmware to your phone:

    1. Extract (un-rar) the firmware file (i.e. to folder c:\Odin) ***
    2. Download [ Login above or register to see download links. ]
    3. Extract Odin ZIP file (i.e. to folder c:\Odin)
    4. Open Odin v3.14.4
    5. Power OFF your A10e
    6. Reboot Phone in Download Mode: Connect USB-cable to your computer. Hold down "Volume up" and "Volume down" at same time. While holding down, connect the USB-cable to your phone.
    7. Wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
    8. Add the firmware files to their designated slots (AP in AP, BL in BL, CP in CP, HOME_CSC in CSC). USERDATA stays EMPTY!
    9. Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
    10. Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes

Use SamMobile only if you are 100% sure about the risks involved in flashing your device. SamMobile is not responsible for any damage caused by using the files on this website.

Yeah, I am pretty familiar with the process. I did it again and made sure to do it *exactly* how you said. Same failure. Here are the pre and post Odin screenshots and the data that is displayed on my screen that I mentioned in my earlier post.

    Preflash:
[ Login above or register to see download links. ]

    Postflash:
[ Login above or register to see download links. ]

When it fails this data is displayed on the device's display:
    Code:
    BIN MODE
    DOWNLOAD SPEED: FAST
    PRODUCT NAME: SM-A102U
    CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
    FRP LOCK: ON
    Secure Download: Enabled
    CCIC = S2MU205
    CARRIER_ID: TMB
    WARRANTY VOID: 0 (0x0000)
    RP SWREV: B:8 K:8 S:8
    DID = 600e4fb0704e
SW REV. CHECK FAIL (BOOTLOADER) DEVICE: 8, BINARY: 7

Yes Sir, I have done this. I even did it again and followed your instructions to the letter, which is what I was already doing.

This is the error the phone displays:
    Code:
    BIN MODE
    DOWNLOAD SPEED: FAST
    PRODUCT NAME: SM-A102U
    CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
    FRP LOCK: ON
    Secure Download: Enabled

    DID = 600e4fb0704e
SW REV. CHECK FAIL (BOOTLOADER) DEVICE: 8, BINARY: 7
I believe this means the firmware is older than what is already installed? But does it also indicate another problem? I am not sure.

Here are screenshots of Odin both pre-flash and post-flash:

[ Login above or register to see download links. ]

Thank you for the help, I really appreciate it.

    Now I see what's wrong

You'll have to wait when a newer build is available of Android 10

Android 10 has Bootloader version 7 while the version on your device is 8

That's the reason it won't install; you'll have to wait till there's a version of Android 10 with BL version 8 available
