UK BTU would be a good choice.
It is not a network firmware and quite light (small download)
lt is the firmware of choice for me.
Right, but then is it possible to load onto a network locked S6? The thing is I was told that the phone was unlocked with a code from the network but not sure if that means I can now load any firmware onto it.

Network lock has nothing to do with the firmware you can install.
However, installing a non network firmware will not unlock your phone from the network.

Makes much more sense. In that case, as you mention, the UK BTU would be a better choice to download as I have slow download speed.

My slow speed did not allow me to completely download a single firmware from this site but I managed to do so from another site. However, thanks a tonne for helping me out, the phone now works and is network unlocked! God bless

If your phone has not been modified, you can install your firmware with SmartSwitch.

I would try method in post 2 here:

You need to install with the OLB PIT file.
SM-G920F OLB multi CSC ( CAM GLB SMA THL XID XME XSE XTC XTE XXV )
    ZEROFLTE_EUR_OPEN_HIDDEN100M.pit

Put firmware file in AP of Odin
Put PIT in PIT of Odin

    Set Odin to:
    Re-partition
    F.Reset Time
    Auto Reboot
