I still can get it to download mode, so I'm not sure if the memory is dead or not.

I've done that, and it failed at writing the pit file.
That's why I asked for the right pit file. Could you help with a link?
    Thanks!

There are a number of PIT file links for your I9300.
The ones you have been given should work if your nand is intact, but you may also need to use another Odin version.
    For the I9300 I would use Odin 3 v1.85

Here is a list of PIT files for the i9300.
Problem is finding a live link that is not a virus!!!

    GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit = Galaxy S3 of 16 Gb
    GT-I9300_mx_20120322.pit = Galaxy S3 of 32 Gb
    GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit = Galaxy S3 of 64 Gb

    This link looks OK

    No luck.
I found the right pit file, tried with different versions of Odin.
I'm not sure, but I guess, in the past, I flashed the firmware with Odin, while having Kies running.
How can this affect my phone ?

You must not have Kies and Odin running at the same time as they conflict with each other.
