We recently published our opinion on why it would be a tough move for Samsung to remove the hardware home button and make other drastic changes on its phones and tablets. A huge pie of the smartphone market is one of the important reasons, and if you were wondering just how huge, then DigiTimes might have a figure for you: according to the Taiwanese publication, Samsung holds approximately 65 percent share of the global Android smartphone market. Assuming there are a billion Android devices being used (there's probably more than a billion), that would mean that a whopping 65,00,000,000 mobile devices have the words Samsung and Galaxy on them.
The competition, according to DigiTimes, is far, far behind, with LG, HTC, Sony and Motorola having global market shares of 7 percent, 6 percent, 5 percent and 4 percent, respectively. That's a gigantic gap any way you look at it, and with the Galaxy S5 on the horizon, it looks like Samsung's dominance of the Android market isn't going to end any time soon.
Still think ditching that hardware home button would be a good idea?
