Samsung has 63% share of all Android devices

That Samsung dominates the Android (and mobile) market is not something anyone can doubt today, but the latest numbers coming from Localytics show just how far things have progressed for the Korean manufacturer – today, Samsung has a 63 percent share of Android mobile devices, including smartphones, phablets (or “fonblets”, as Samsung likes to call them), and tablets. This is almost double the total market share held by all other manufacturers combined, with eight out of the 10 most popular Android phones manufactured by Samsung.

When it comes to tablets, Samsung holds an equally impressive share of 53 percent. Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy Tab 2 series of tablets are the most popular, accounting for almost 40 percent of all active Android tablets. Combined with the Galaxy S series of devices, the Tab 2 series is mostly responsible for Samsung’s impressive grasp on the Android market, and with 100+ million Galaxy S and Note phones expected to ship in total this year, it’s a grasp that other manufacturers of Android devices will find extremely hard to loosen.

I think it all marketing strategies from samsung. For example take S4 which all lastest os and features who will buy S4 when you get the features in S3. they will not update until the new released handset get good sales but always they keep wow factor in S4 to attract customers go for S4 as it got good features that features you will never see in S3 even if it is compatible. Some of test firmwares they release for s3 didn’t have any problems for example 4.2.2 it missed some features but touchwiz was working fine. I tested it.… Read more »

its all about android now. without android Samsung is no where. google releases the updates and samsung will take a year to update it. I really don’t understand why samsung does it.

It is because they have to port touchwiz and its entire features to the newer android version. It takes a lot of time to do that.
Regardless of that, S4/S3 got 4.3 in a very short time!

why don’t they give stock touchwiz from android? who wants the touchwiz which makes customers to wait a year a waste lot of time for software developers to port it or whey don’t they adopt a touchwiz which will be easy to port?

All that so that we have a version of Android that’s one year late, and slower than the original. Great.

Great shame for samsung because of this fact! S3 with 15.1% and got a 4.3 terrible firmware.Does it fair?

Well I gave my Note 2 to a family member that ditched her iPhone and I bought a Nexus 5 32GB(821).

The 820 version is for the US and the 821 is for the rest of the world.

I’ve had it since Nov 5th.

It’s not a perfect phone by any means.

Mediocre camera, speaker,no sd card or USB to Go and the battery is not removable.

WiFi on the 5ghz band is spotty

How is this even related to the article?
If you really want 4.3 on the S3, go download it from the firmware section of the website. Its out on about 7 or 8 European carriers. S2? Be realistic, the device is nearing two and a half years old.

You are the one not being realistic. Is it normal that a phone less than three years old has no more OS updates?
And why do I have to download firmware? It should download and update by itself on my phone.
