Samsung conducts its own drop test on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge

After unboxings and reviews drop tests are probably the most watched videos on YouTube by people who are looking to purchase a new device, particularly a high-end device. These videos allow them to see just how durable the product is before they spend their hard earned money on it. Recently Samsung refuted a popular bend test of its new flagships by conducting one of its own and tried to set the record straight that the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge will not bend under normal circumstances. Countless drop test videos of both smartphones are already available on YouTube but today Samsung released its own in yet another attempt to shape the narrative.

The video starts off by acknowledging that there have already been many Galaxy S6 and S6 edge drop test videos and that Samsung is “proud” that its devices have survived most of them. To answer any lingering questions that potential customers might have about the durability of the two new flagships Samsung reiterates in the video that it tests all new devices thoroughly before they're brought to market. We first see the Galaxy S6 being dropped on its back from chest-height and unsurprisingly it holds up nicely, then the Galaxy S6 edge is dropped in the same way from the same height and there's no change in the result. The video reminds us yet again that the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have Gorilla Glass 4 which is among the toughest glasses available on the market right now and that the aircraft-grade 6013 aluminium frame has been designed to hit the surface before the glass so that it takes hit instead of the glass, ultimately reducing the possibility of breakage.

Samsung wraps up the video by saying that indeed these phones will break if you try hard enough, “but so will the windshield of your car,” which when you come to think of it really does make sense. The video ends with a reassuring note that the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge are designed to take on “extreme situations” that users will seldom encounter during normal usage.
