After Samsung officially announced the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge at MWC 2015, it's high-level executives sat down with South Korean journalists and talked about its latest flagship offerings. During the interview, JK Shin, co-CEO and head of mobile at Samsung, along with Younghee Lee, the head of mobile marketing at Samsung, discussed about various aspects of the devices as well as Samsung's position in the mobile industry.
When one of the journalist pointed out Galaxy S6's design resembles to that of the Apple iPhone 6, Shin clarified that one has to see the device in real to understand the different design approach that Samsung took for the Galaxy S6. He was also quick to point out that the company's latest smartphones have deeper color tones, different texture, and more durability (than the iPhone 6). He also mentioned that Samsung is trying to find different construction methods to make it hard for others (Chinese smartphone brands) to copy Samsung's designs.
When asked about lack of some features on the Galaxy S6 Edge when compared to the Galaxy Note Edge (which also sports a curved edge display), Younghee Lee stated that their engineers studied the pros and cons that customers found on the Note Edge, and used only the optimized features on the S6 Edge. He also stated that Samsung “wanted to send a short and crisp but strong message” to its competitors and that is why it directly called out at Apple during the unveiling of the Galaxy S6.
