Every time Samsung launches a flagship smartphone, people begin wondering how much the manufacturer has improved the Super AMOLED display that it loves using. Does it still have whites that don't really look white? Are the colors still over-saturated? Is the screen's brightness improved enough to not make it an issue reading in direct sunlight? Those are usually the questions that people ask, and according to DisplayMate, Samsung may have addressed each of those issues in the best possible way with the Galaxy Note 3.

Here's how DisplayMate summarizes the Note 3's display:

In a span of just a few years, OLED display technology is now challenging and even exceeding the performance of the best LCDs across the board in brightness, contrast, color accuracy, color management, picture quality, screen uniformity, and viewing angles. OLEDs are also considerably thinner than LCDs but still cost considerably more to manufacture.

The Galaxy Note 3 has the newest generation of OLED display technology. The Lab tests show that it is better than the Note II in every measurement category, and also comparable or better than the display on the Galaxy S4.

Basically, DisplayMate believes that Samsung has improved the Super AMOLED display on the Note 3 on every front. Colors are still overblown by default, but the various display modes make it possible to get a natural look. The screen is much sharper than the Note II thanks to the increased resolution, meaning it's practically impossible to discern individual pixels anymore. Power efficiency has increased by around 30 percent and is higher than most full HD LCDs (such as the HTC One's)

The biggest improvement, however, is brightness. The Note 3 can achieve up to 400 nits of brightness in most conditions, on par with the best LCDs out there. Moreover, outdoors, the Note 3 can deliver a whopping 660 nits of brightness, 40 percent more than the Galaxy S4 and around 10 percent more than the iPhone 5s. The screen is less reflective, which helps outdoor visibility as well.

The conclusion is simple: Samsung continues to improve its AMOLED displays, and the Note 3 has the best Super AMOLED display yet. Punchy colors that can be dialed down, great viewing angles, high brightness and outdoor visibility, and noticeably improved power efficiency mean that Samsung's third-generation phablet will provide one of the best viewing experiences out there, and all the naysayers of AMOLED displays will have less to complain about this time around.
